Quartzite gives you the soft, flowing look of marble with the toughness of granite. We template, cut, polish and fit quartzite worktops from our Sheffield workshop, for kitchens across South Yorkshire and the surrounding counties.

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone, formed when sandstone is transformed by heat and pressure deep underground. It's very different from quartz, which is an engineered stone made from crushed quartz and resin. Quartzite is quarried as solid slabs, so every piece is unique.

Why choose quartzite?

  • Very hard – harder than granite, so it resists scratches well
  • Heat resistant – natural stone with no resin to scorch
  • Marble-like looks – soft veining and movement in whites, greys, creams and golds
  • Doesn't etch like marble – true quartzite stands up far better to lemon juice and vinegar
  • Suitable outdoors – no resin to fade in sunlight, so it works for outdoor kitchens too
  • Taj Mahal – warm cream with soft gold veining
  • White and Calacatta-look quartzites – bright, marble-style whites
  • Grey and blue quartzites – cooler tones with dramatic movement

Good to know

  • Sealing – quartzite is natural and slightly porous, so it needs sealing, like granite.
  • Check the stone – some stones sold as "soft quartzite" are really dolomite or marble and are less hard-wearing. We'll tell you exactly what you're buying.
  • Fabrication – quartzite is very hard to cut and polish, so it's a job for experienced fabricators.

Quartzite worktop FAQs

What's the difference between quartz and quartzite? Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz and resin, with a uniform look and no sealing needed. Quartzite is a natural stone – harder, more heat resistant and unique, but it needs sealing.

Is quartzite better than marble? For a busy kitchen, usually yes – it gives a similar look but is much harder and far less prone to etching.

How much do quartzite worktops cost? Quartzite is priced by the slab and varies a lot between stones, so we quote each kitchen individually. Send us your sizes for a free quote.
