Quartz worktops are a big investment, and the company you choose matters as much as the stone. The same slab can end up looking flawless or disappointing depending on who templates, cuts and fits it. Here's what to check before you commit.
1. Do they make the worktops themselves?
Some companies only sell quartz and pass the work to someone else. A fabricator cuts and polishes the worktops in its own workshop and fits them with its own team – one point of contact, and nobody to blame but themselves if something isn't right. Ask: "Who templates, who cuts, and who fits?"
2. How do they template?
Accurate templating, done once your units are fitted, is what makes stone worktops fit properly. Ask how they measure and who comes out to do it.
3. Where will the joints go?
On longer runs and L-shaped kitchens your worktops may need joints. A good supplier will tell you where they'll be before cutting, and plan them to be as discreet as possible.
4. What's included in the quote?
A clear quote lists the stone, thickness, edge profile, cut-outs (sink, hob, tap holes), drainer grooves, upstands or splashbacks, delivery, fitting and removal of old worktops. If something isn't listed, ask.
5. Which brands and colours can they get?
Make sure they can supply the brand or colour you like – Silestone, Caesarstone, Compac, Unistone or a good-value own brand – and ask to see a sample or a full slab before you choose. See our top 10 quartz worktops for ideas.
6. Warranties and insurance
Check what the manufacturer's warranty covers, what the fitter guarantees, and that the company carries public liability insurance.
7. Reviews and recent work
Look for recent reviews and photos of real kitchens they've fitted, not just stock images – and ask how soon they can template and fit.
8. Lead times
Ask how long it takes from templating to fitting, so you can plan around your kitchen fitter, plumber and electrician.
